INTERSHIPS

Supporting students who are studying in a water-related field is one of Pure Oakland Water’s top priorities. To do this we fund a program with the Clinton River Watershed Council, the Friends of the Rouge, and the Huron River Watershed Council. This program began in 2014 and offers to fully fund summer interns working in the fields of environmentally focused education, field water quality monitoring, and marketing programs. These interns also volunteer for multiple POW events a year, providing them with additional networking opportunities.

"It means a great deal to me to be able to work in the watershed I’ve lived in my whole life.”

“I interned with the Clinton River Watershed Council in 2020 with support provided by Pure Oakland Water (POW). It developed into a full-time position, where I now play a part in teaching future POW interns the very same lessons I learned. It continues to bring me immense joy and fulfillment to work in this field, and it means a great deal to me to be able to work in the watershed I’ve lived in my whole life.”

"My Friends of the Rouge internship taught me so much about the larger community I had grown up in...  [It] exemplified the importance of connecting to the people in the communities we serve and that anyone can get hands-on in the community to make a difference. I am so grateful to Pure Oakland Water for funding my internship position which has brought wonderful opportunities and learning experiences."
